Midsummer Magic

I found the pic on the Net, but this is actually sold in my local store.
And so another week has passed in the Moominvalley without much signifcance. The longest day of the year has passed and with it the Midsummer celebration, also known as the best day to invade Sweden. This day was always given magical powers by tribes across the globe, and surely enough the gods of football delivered. Anybody that have seen Croatia-Turkey game have witnessed a historical and improbable comeback. I have adjusted my expectations and I now predict a Germany-Spain final with Germany lifting the trophy. For people across the Atlantic that have no idea of what I am talking about... suffice to say that I have celebrated Midsummer with a pizza and bottle of Diet Coke. The same way I celebrate every weekend.
You know that I can easily sleep for 12 hours if there is no alarm clock set? And that's without any sleeping pills. Now how messed up is that? I am in an odd state of mind, Technically stable and without much mental pain, but at the same time extremely alienated from the world. Maybe the reason I sleep a lot is because then my brain can take me to other places. It happens even when I'm awake. My mind is travelling to places I have visited, places I want to visit, places I will never visit (because they don't exist). And in those places I meet friends and spend good time with them. It all sounds very poetic except that it is almost obsessive and quite paralyzing, It is interfering with all the mundane but necessary tasks of life, like the ability to focus and plan ahead. I know, it sounds like it could be quickly remedied by a solid kick in the arse, but I suspect it's something deeper than that.
Enough with the muddy mental stuff. The summer is here and with it comes... work. As usually, I won't take any vacation days during summer months. Vacation means travel, and travelling to foreign places during the only months of the year when Sweden is actually warm and sunny seems a bit unnecessary. But after that its touring time. Planned destinations include Norway, UK and around Xmas, even Poland. One of those days I have to try the all-inclusive lying-on-the-beach sipping-on-a-drink doing-nothing-for-two-weeks vacations but for now it doesn't feel very appealing.
Oh yes, one thing that can be regarded as a positive thing. My booklust have returned with full strength. Recently I have walked into a bookstore and bought no less than 3 books. Just like that! And I'm almost done with the first one. The authors are Scott Lynch, Neil Gaiman and Michael Crichton. It is probably connected to the escapistic tendenices that I have mentioned before. When I'm in the book, I don't need to be here. Still, reading is good, right? Necronomicon next! *cough*
